Journey to Freedom

15,000 THB per week (Monday - Sunday; October through June)

The most physically demanding of our programs, Journey to Freedom enables volunteers to participate in an effort to restore the close connection between the Karen tribe and their elephants. Journey to Freedom encourages villagers to stop leasing their elephants to trekking camps and return them to the jungles of Northern Thailand.

Local Karen tribes provide volunteers with homestay accommodations, providing an extremely unique eco-tourism opportunity. Journey to Freedom only operates from October through June each year, avoiding the rainy season in Thailand.

Elephant Sanctuary Cambodia

12,000 THB per week (Monday - Sunday)

The Save Elephant Foundation is working within the Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary to protect and conserve 1 million acres of jungle habitat, approximately one hour north of Angkor Wat. The project spans 25,000 acres and aims to protect the land and all of the native species, flora and fauna, that call it home, including tigers, monkeys, buffalos, and of course, the Asian elephant.

Initially, this project will focus on tree planting and restoring the region's forest and combatting the illegal logging that has taken place. Other goals for the Elephant Sanctuary Cambodia are plant and wildlife identification, seed collecting, trail-making and educational outreach. Be a part of this project from its grass-roots!

Surin Project

12,000 THB per week (Monday - Saturday/Sunday)

The Surin Project is a new and innovative project focussed on finding solutions to the challenges faced by mahouts and their elephants in Surin province in North-Eastern Thailand. It is committed to improving the living conditions of Asian elephants and providing sustainable economic revenue for their mahouts in the local community.

Volunteers work alongside the mahouts, from planting grass, sugarcane and bamboo to building elephant shelters, while their elephants are free of chains and interacting with each other. The living conditions of the elephants in the center are far from perfect, with most elephants shackled all day long with little or nothing more to do than to stand in the sun. It is the role and responsibility of the Surin Project to help improve these living conditions and give these elephants the opportunitiy to roam free and behave naturally.
