Chorus Girl

Aueng Kham

Aueng Kham was rescued in July 2020 after a long and difficult life in the elephant entertainment industry. She used to work at a trekking camp in Mae Taeng, where she was forced to give rides and perform for many years. Her rescue was made possible thanks to the support of Warattada “Meow” Pattarodom and her friends, who joined our team to walk her to freedom — saddle removed, chains left behind.

One of her first acts upon arrival was to take a long, refreshing dip in the river, a sign that better days had begun. She was then brought to our clinic for treatment of a fungal skin infection, which fully healed thanks to the daily care provided by our veterinary team.

Gentle and well-mannered, Aueng Kham quickly formed a bond with her mahout, who earned her trust by hand-feeding her and treating her with kindness. Her body bears the scars of her traumatic past, but in her sanctuary home, free from fear and exploitation, her spirit has been able to heal, and she is now embracing life.

At the park, Aueng Kham developed a beautiful friendship with Hom Nuan, which has blossomed over the years. Once desperate for companionship, they now rarely stop communicating with each other, as if continuing a long-interrupted conversation. Soon after, they were joined by Rattana Kham, another newcomer, and the three now form a small, affectionate herd — finally surrounded by the care and connection they had been denied for so long.
