Baby Chaba

Chaba was born on May 17, 2021, at an elephant show and riding camp in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where her early life was marked by hardship. She was found alongside her mother, Bunma, in a barren concrete pen. Both were in poor health, and Bunma was tethered by a short chain.

On August 11, 2021, Chaba and her mother, Bunma, were rescued by Save Elephant Foundation. Initially, plans were made to transport them by truck, but both were apprehensive—especially Bunma, who feared being separated from her baby. Instead, they made the journey on foot, walking two hours to the sanctuary. There, they were warmly welcomed with an elephant cake, symbolizing the beginning of a new and hopeful chapter.

Chaba is now thriving at the park, where her gentle and playful spirit shines through as she explores her forever home alongside her mother and extended elephant family. Her best friend, Pyi Mai, is like an older sister, and together they roam, swim, and play—turning the park into their playground.

With the loving guidance of her mother, her devoted nanny Dmax, and Pyi Mai’s mother, Kham Moon, Chaba grows more confident and content with each passing day. From a traumatic beginning, this spirited young elephant has blossomed into a symbol of resilience—living with the freedom, care, and love she truly deserves.
