Tang Mo

Tang Mo was only two years old when she was taken to Phuket Zoo, where she spent over two decades performing for tourists. Under the pressure of daily shows, she was forced to dance, play musical instruments, and perform other unnatural tricks for the entertainment of tourists. The lengthy shows were held up to three times a day, and Tang Mo was required to perform under the constant threat of a sharp bull hook.

Her rescue on 11 August 2020, marked the end of a life lived under fear and control. Following an arduous 32-hour journey by truck, Tang Mo finally arrived at Save Elephant Foundation, where her new life could begin.

Since settling in, Tang Mo has shown remarkable resilience. She formed a close bond with Ram Ruay, another young female rescued from an elephant riding camp around the same time. The two quickly became inseparable best friends, wandering the sanctuary side by side, offering each other affection, support and companionship.

Together, Tang Mo and Ram Ruay have come to know what it means to live freely — no longer performers, but individuals with the space to heal, relax, and simply be elephants.
