Thai Koon

Thai Koon was named in honor of the Thai Koon Steel Company, whose late owner, Khun U-Rai, generously funded her rescue. She was saved from a life of hardship in Tak Province, near the Myanmar border, where she worked in the brutal logging industry for many years.

Tragically, Thai Koon lost full use of her left front foot after stepping on a landmine, leaving her with a permanent disability. Though walking remains difficult, she faces each day with quiet strength and patience.

Since arriving at Save Elephant Foundation in May 2014, Thai Koon has found safety, comfort, and companionship. She gradually introduced herself to the other elephants, eventually forming a close friendship with Tilly and Kham Puan — two other elephants who also live with disabilities. Over the years, these three elephants have formed a deep bond built on love, trust, and mutual care.

Thai Koon receives daily veterinary treatment for her injured foot, and without fail, Tilly and Kham Puan greet her with joyful trumpets and gentle rumbles whenever she returns from the clinic. Together, they have created a loving family, rooted in empathy and perseverance — a beautiful testament to the power of kindness and friendship.
