Happy Birth Day to our boy Navann

Eight years ago a precious life entered into our lives here at ENP. The charming little prince Navaan was born free, confident and happy .

This boy has never known fear or suffered harm. He is full of light.

In 2015, after only a few months with us, a baby elephant named Hansa died suddenly of Herpes virus. Soon after, DokMai and then Navaan got sick.

We were terrified for the lives of all our young here, as this illness is often fatal. Navaan tested positive for Herpes Virus in his blood PCR.

We thought that we might lose our boy. A treatment protocol began right away. Isolated and monitored, temperature checks, fluid therapy and drug administration, our vets were vigilant and thorough in their care. Many friends helped us to rush order the purchase of Famcyclovir and Acyclovir from the USA. We made it through that time, and our boy is now so healthy and strong.

Today is his 8th birthday ! And a festive feast we brought to him, wishing him good health and strength always.

Thanks for all your love and kindness words to the young handsome boy .

Our New Rescue: Ratana Kham

Ratana Kham is home after a long day of walking. Normally, a short distance like this takes an elephant less than one hour to manage. But after the owner brought her to us, and we began the journey, we noticed that something was not right about her.

Rattankham has been rescued by the Forest monk in Thailand named Pra Arjarn Moche from the Ratana Wararam temple.

The honorable and his followers have freed her from riding work to spend the rest of her life at our project.

Pra Arjarn Moche came to walk with us, and accompanied the elephant on her way home.

After we saw Ratana walking, we questioned the owner, and he admitted that this elephant was attacked by a bull four months ago while she was short chained, and she could not defend herself or get away. We are not sure yet of accompanying internal injuries, but we can see that she has a lot of discomfort while she slowly walks . Today our vet team and mahouts will be monitoring her, and an x-ray will be given to help us understand the extent of her injury.

Thanks to Pra Arjarn Moche and all of his followers for releasing this beautiful life to a life without fear or harm. Thanks to Khun Meaw and Khun Por for coordinating and helping to get this lovely old girl to a life of freedom. We will update you soon on any developments.

ช้างเชือกใหม่ พังรัตนคำเดินทางถึงศูนย์บริบาลของมูลนิธิอนุรักษ์ช้างและสิ่งแวดล้อมแล้ว โดยการเดินเท้า ทางเจ้าของเดิมนำช้างมาส่งที่จุดนัดหมาย การเดินทางสั้นๆเพียง 4 กิโลเมตรอย่างนี้ถ้าเป็นช้างปรกติใช้เวลาเพียง 45 นาที พวกเราไม่อยากบังคับให้ช้างขึ้นรถ และเห็นว่าการเดินเท้าดีที่สุด เมื่อเดินมาซักระยะพวกเราสังเกตเห็นความผิดปรกติหลายอย่างของข้อเท้าและสะโพกช้าง ช้างเดินช้าและหยุดตลอดเวลา ทางเราได้สอบถามเจ้าของเดิม บอกว่าพังรัตนคำ เคยถูกช้างตัวผู้ที่หลุดมาทำร้าย ในขณะที่พังรัตนคำขายังถูกล่ามโซ่อยู่ และไม่มีทางสู้ หรือป้องกันตัวหรือวิ่งหนีเพราะขาถูกล่ามโซ่สั้นๆอยู่

การเดินทางของช้างถึงช้าแต่ดูมีความสุขที่ได้เดินโดยที่ขาไม่มีพันธนาการและใช้งวงเกี่ยวกินหญ้าไปตลอดทาง พระอาจารย์โมเช่และครอบครัว พร้อมทั้งคุณเหมียว วรัตดา มารับมอบช้างจากเจ้าของเก่าและเดินนำช้างมาส่งต่อให้มูลนิธิฯ

พังรัตนคำโชคดีที่มีพระมาโปรดและปลดปล่อยจากการใช้งาน สู่อิสรภาพในบั้นปลายของชีวิต ขอบพระคุณพระอาจารย์โมโช่ จากวัดป่ารัตนวัน อ.วังน้ำเขียว พร้อมทั้งศิษยานุศิษย์ของท่าน ที่มาไถ่ชีวิตรัตนคำ ออกจากการทำงานและทำให้เท้าไม่ต้องถูกพันธนาการอีกแล้ว

ขอบคุณคุณปอ วรจรรย์ เที่ยงธรรม และคุณเหมียว วรัตดา ภัทโรดม ที่ประสานงานช่วยกันจนทำให้รัตนคำสู่อิสรภาพ วันนี้คุณหมอจะทำการเอกซเรย์ที่ข้อเท้า และขาเพื่อหาสาเหตุของอาการบาดเจ็บของรัตนคำต่อไป จะอัพเดทให้ทุกท่านได้ทราบอีกครั้งหนึ่งค่ะ

Update San Mueng and Tang Mo:

It is common after most rescues to receive them to our project carrying a lifetime of trauma. San Meung is not alone in his initial disoriented condition. Almost all experience some degree of stress-related behavior, some far more than others. His eyes still show empty.

When San Mueng arrived at ENP, he seemed very surprised. He scrambled to get off the truck , and when his feet touched the ground, he trumpeted so loud.

After bringing Tang Mo to meet with him, at first he seemed happy, but a short while later, he seemed to lose interest. Our team stays close to observe him, to understand and help him. He is now more calm, but still shows trauma, eyes always downcast. We hope that time , love and care will bring San Meung back to be a playful young boy soon, as healing did for Gluay Hom not so long ago.

Thanks to all of you who helped to bring these beautiful lives, Tang Mo and San Mueang, back together. Thanks immeasurably to the Trunks Up campaign. Journey of San Mueang

15 hours have passed already for the journey of San Mueang . It is not easy for the young boy to be on the truck.

San Mueang was taken from his mother and home when he was three years old. Since that time he has known only the zoo.
Darrick and his mahout are with San Mueang all the time trying to keep him calm and meet his needs.

In Thailand we are entering Monsoon time. Travel on this trip is accompanied by wind and heavy rain.
All are soaking wet. There are still long hours to go. We will have more story later.

ผลกระทบจากโควิด-19 ส่งผลรุนแรงมากกว่าที่คาดคิด โดยเฉพาะภาคการท่องเที่ยวและคนเลี้ยงช้างที่เจอปัญหาสาหัสมากเพราะไม่สามารถลดค่าใช้จ่ายได้ การนั่งรอความช่วยเหลือจากผู้อื่นไม่ใช่ทางเลือกที่ดีสำหรับเวลาช่วงนี้ มูลนิธิอนุรักษ์ช้างและสิ่งแวดล้อม ได้เล็งเห็นความสำคัญของการเสริมสร้างอาชีพและการสร้างรายได้เพื่อมาช่วยเหลือครอบครัวคนเลี้ยงช้าง ในหลายเดือนที่ผ่านมาทางมูลนิธิฯได้จ้างผู้เชี่ยวชาญทางด้านอาชีพต่างๆมาอบรมสหวิชาชีพให้กับครอบครัวคนเลี้ยงช้าง ไกด์และคนตกงานที่สนใจต้องการเรียนรู้ เมื่ออาทิตย์ที่ผ่านมาได้มีการอบรมการเพ้นท์กระเป๋าผ้า อบรมทำสร้อยหินมงคลและอีกมากมายฯโดยทางมูลนิธิฯได้ช่วย ประชาสัมพันธ์ในเรื่องการทำตลาดให้และประกาศขอความช่วยเหลือออกไป และด้วยความเมตตาจากหลายองค์กรทั่วโลกที่ต้องการยื่นมือเข้ามาช่วยเหลือคนเลี้ยงช้าง หลายองค์กรได้ติดต่อเข้ามาเพื่อช่วยสนับสนุนซื้อสินค้าทันทีโดยไม่มีข้อแม้ โดยการสั่งกระเป๋าไปจำหน่ายรวมทั้งนำไปขายในร้าน ไปใช้ในงานอบรมสัมมนา นำไปเป็นของฝากแก่ลูกค้า และนำไปเป็นของที่ระลึกในงานแต่งและในโอกาสพิเศษ

The COVID pandemic will see little improvement in it’s affect upon business for quite a long time yet. For the people who hold the elephant life in their hand, they must prepare for a worsening situation. During this time of tourist absence, I spend many days visiting with elephant owners trying to encourage and help them through this struggle. It does not satisfy their memory of better times, but to shine light on the path lets them know our care .

Save Elephant Foundation began a program to help mahouts and their Elephants since March . It not only assists with Elephant food , but we also guide them to develop their skills, anticipating a return to normalcy. We paid for experts to train mahouts and their families to learn a variety of jobs, especially to make goods, products and things to sell online; we also trained them to use an internet platform to improve their business . We believe that education and diversified skill development is the best way to sustain through hard times and exchange for better living.

The training of elephant owners and their families creates opportunities to enhance their income.

Thanks to Stewards for Elephants , Future for Elephants , The Elephant Emporium Australia , Olafa online shopping, and the Ants and Elephants store, all who are helping us to sell products from elephant families. This will cut the cost of postage and bring more convenience for all of you to purchase any goods. To buy from these shops will benefit you. We will announce when products reach each country. คณะกรรมาธิการ การที่ดิน ทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อม ลงพื้นที่เพื่อเยี่ยมเยือนคนเลี้ยงช้างที่จังหวัดสุรินทร์ การมาในครั้งนี้ได้มารับฟังปัญหาคนเลี้ยงช้างที่ตกงานและได้รับผลกระทบจากโรคระบาดโควิด-19 ทั้งนี้ได้มีคนเลี้ยงช้างจากจังหวัดสุรินทร์ที่นำช้างไปทำงานในพื้นที่ ภาคตะวันออกและอีกหลายพื้นที่ได้ยื่นหนังสือร้องขอความช่วยเหลือเพื่อให้คณะกรรมาธิการได้นำไปพิจารณาเพื่อช่วยเหลือต่อไป

Members of Parliament and the committee of Land , National Resource and Animal welfare, came to visit the elephants of Surin Province, and to listen to the owners, to see the lives of captive elephants and their mahouts who have lost their jobs during the COVID pandemic.

During this time, many elephant groups have written to the government asking for help and support to survive through this period of hardship. Thanks to all the committee members who demonstrated your concern, and came to listen to the plea of the elephants and their mahout families .

Mee Boon enjoying here freedom with Lucky

Mee Boon had a fun time today playing football with her mahout. Both eyes blind is not a handicap for living at ENP. When we rescued Mee Boon, we introduced her to a couple of elephants whom we thought might welcome her, and with friendship become her eyes, caring for her. But she showed no interest in elephants until we introduced her to Lucky, who is also blind and had recently lost her best friend, Bua Loy.

Mee Boon and Lucky became friends overnight. Beginning their friendship in a double shelter, we eventually took out the barrier between them as they never wanted to be apart. Every day it can be seen how well they look after each other, talking and touching each other. Their love heals any wounds from their past, and light surrounds their beautiful souls, guiding their every step. We are so happy for them.
ถึงแม้จะตาบอดทั้งสองข้างแต่ก็ไม่ได้ทำให้พังมีบุญถอดใจ เธอมีความสุข ยังคงเล่นเตะฟุตบอลช้างกับควาญได้ มีบุญเป็นช้างตาบอดช่วยมาจากปางขี่ช้างเมื่อปีก่อน เมื่อมาถึงพวกเราพยายามหาเพื่อนที่ตาดีให้แต่มีบุญไม่ยอมรับกลับมาเลือก พังลักกี้ที่ตาบอดทั้งสองข้างเหมือนกัน ทั้งคู่รักกันมากอยู่เคียงข้างกันไม่ยอมห่าง ความรักทำให้แม่ช้างทั้งสองอยู่ที่มูลนิธิฯเราอย่างมีความสุขพวกเราดีใจที่พังลักกี้กับพีงมีบุญกลายเป็นเพื่อนรักกัน

On 25th Aug is the birthday of our boy “Yindee”

Yindee share his Birthday cake with his family including his two new friends Mae Koy and Maliwan . Today Yindee 7 years old , he still a little boy for his mother and nannies . He still try to drink milk and get nurse from his mother. Happy Birthday the gentle young man. We love you .
